Epidermolysis Bullosa

Epidermolysis bullosa is a skin blistering disorder that is caused by genetic defects in structural proteins of the skin. The most common mutations are in keratins 14 and 5 which pair to form keratin fibers in the cells in the stratum basale. Mutations in proteins of the basement membrane also lead to epidermolysis bullosa. In the image, note the separation between the epidermis and dermis. A defect in which other cellular protein might produce a similar phenotype?
