Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension occurs when pulmonary pressure rises to about one fourth of systemic blood pressure. The pathologic features of pulmonary hypertension are increased thickness of the medial layer of pulmonary vessels and proliferation of smooth muscle cells. These changes narrow the lumens of pulmonary vessels.
