Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia

Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia of the cervix is classified from mild to moderate to severe (CIN I, CIN II, CIN III). Classification is based on the appearance of nuclei, larger and darker in more severe forms of CIN, and the presence of basal cells in the upper part of the epithelium. Basal cells confined to the lower third indicate a low-grade lesion, whereas basal cells in the upper two-thirds indicate a high-grade lesion.
