Zona Reticularis

The zona reticularis is the innermost cortical layer and lies immediately adjacent to the medulla. Its cells are smaller, more irregular, and less vacuolated than those of the zona fasciculata. These cells secrete sex hormones that supplement gonadal sex hormones.
