Adrenal Medulla

The cells of the adrenal medulla are arranged in small groups and possess cytoplasmic granules that contain epinephrine. These cells can be stained using the chromaffin reaction, and appear yellow-brown. These chromaffin cells are the equivalent of post-ganglionic cells, and sympathetic nerve fibers can be seen synapsing on them. The high vascularity of the medulla is clear on this slide. Numerous blood vessels are visible throughout.
