Basal Cell Carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma is one of the most common cancers in humans, but it rarely metastasizes. They tend to arise in sun-exposed sites. The tumor cells resemble cells in the basal layer of the epidermis in that they often line up in a row along the basement membrane. This is called palisading and can be used to differentiate basal cell carcinoma from other skin-derived tumors.
