Ciliary Body

The ciliary body controls the shape of the lens. The ciliary body is composed mainly of smooth muscle and is connected to the lens by suspensory ligaments which are not visible in this image. Contraction of smooth muscle in the ciliary body makes the lens rounder focusing vision on objects which are closer to the eye. Relaxation of the smooth muscle causes the lens to flatten allowing for imaging of more distant objects.
