Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a serious form of inflammatory bowel disease in which the large intestine displays open sores and patients experience bloody diarrhea. Histological, this appears as the distortion of the architecture of the colonic crypts, which can include inflammation and abscesses in the epithelium and hemorrhage and inflammation in the lamina propria. The effect on the crypt structure prevents the colon from absorbing water to its maximum capacity.
