Simple Squamous

Simple squamous epithelium is characterized by a continuous surface of irregularly shaped, flat cells supported by an underlying basement membrane. Note the appearance of simple squamous epithelium in section: the irregular cell boundaries, bulges in the area around the nuclei, and generally flat appearance.
