Hashimoto's Thyroidosis

Hashimoto's disease also involves an autoimmune response to the follicular cells of the thyroid gland. Unlike Graves' Disease, which causes increased thyroid activity, this response results in hypothyroidism. Autoantibodies to the TSH receptor, thyroid peroxidase, or thyroglobulin result in the destruction of thyroid cells. Here, a lymphoid follicle full of infiltrating lymphocytes can be seen. Other follicles display abnormally shaped colloid. Compare to normal thyroid.
