Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

In the light microscope, the rough endoplasmic reticulum can be visualized as masses of material staining with basic dyes. The basophilia of the RER in H&E staining is due to the presence of negatively charged rRNA in the ribosomes attached to the cisternae.
